Cowrie Shell, Loose, Shiny, Smooth

We carry a full line of African beads, both old trade beads and newer beads made or strung in Africa for the world-wide bead trade. Trade beads are old and/or used beads, and will show varying amounts of wear. Newly-made African beads are generally handmade in small communities. Style and availability vary.

"An old goodie"

We would love to hear your thoughts: I bought these beads mostly for the history behind cowries: how they have been used in jewellery, embellishment on clothing, as money and for magical and ritual purposes. The beads are very nice and are great not least in "ethnic" or earthy style jewellery. But the shine and colour also works in modern styles and sparkly designs. I use them as charms/pendants just as well as I link them together. Haven't tried macramé yet, though.
