Our selection of colorful "sequin" style African heishi beads include both vulcanite heishi and vinyl heishi. While these beads look like miniature phonograph records, they are not made from actual record albums. Originally, this bead style was made from vulcanite (vulcanized hard rubber), but testing has shown that many on the market (including some of ours) are made from other materials as well, including vinyl. These beads were most likely made in Europe and exported to West Africa for trade. They work great in trendy stretch bracelets and other colorful jewelry! For jewelry inspirations, see our African vinyl heishi Pinterest board.
